Frida Kahlo: Alas Para Volar

The wonderful thing about having a sister is that you always have someone to do fun projects with! Greta and I love to sit down and brainstorm ideas for fun creative projects. During October of 2018, we were living abroad in France together and wanted to do something to show our love of being latinas for Hispanic Heritage Month. We knew we wanted to do something with Frida Kahlo’s quote “Pies, ¿para qué los quiero si tengo alas para volar?”

Because I love illustration, animation, and stop motion, I decided to combine all three. My sister volunteered to be the model and we quickly got to work.

This was such a fun creative project and also one of the most challenging projects I’ve worked on. Creating each illustration frame by frame took longer than I expected and learning how to time each frame on Final Cut Pro X was also a feat within itself. However, I’m so glad we took it upon ourselves to create this because it is now one of the projects I am proudest of!
