Sketchtember 2019

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am a huge lover of creative challenges! I think they are so good for the creative soul and nourish our imagination in more ways than one.

About a year ago, I discovered Gal Shir on YouTube. At the time, he was creating simple yet captivating illustrations on his ipad. I fell in love with his style and thought I would adapt it to my own drawings. Over time, I have developed this style into my own and I still love it to this day. So when he announced Sketchtember, his illustration challenge for the month of September, I was so eager to participate! The challenge was centered on improving our sketching abilities through practice. However, I couldn’t help myself but to illustrate these sketches to life.

Day 1: Underwater

Day 2: High in the Sky

Day 3: The Beast

Day 11: Epic Castle

For a few of them, the idea flowed right into the form of an illustration, skipping any hint of a sketch.

Days 4, 5, 6: Happy Fruit, One Big Planet, Deep Forest

I had a blast participating in this challenge! It really pushed me to think quickly on my feet since I like to spend no more than an hour or two on creating these illustrations. Huge thanks to Gal for putting together these incredible prompts!
